Being well in your body includes physical well-being. Similarly, being well in your mind includes being both mentally and emotionally well. It is clear that we process information and feelings in our brains. The two processes though different are undoubtedly connected and work in unison. That’s why we offer mental wellness programs and resources at Fitness to Nutrition.
One of the easiest ways to begin retraining your brain is through training it to see the positive in everyday life. Our gratitude journals and diaries are made with prompts to help you appreciate what’s right in front of you.
The approach to training your brain to react differently to information is not necessarily the same approach to training your brain to react differently towards feelings. However, again, rewiring your thoughts and your emotional responses to those thoughts go together. This is one of the key tenets of our mental wellness programs.
Cognitive restructuring is a technique used in therapy to help people identify distorted or limiting beliefs and negative thinking patterns so that they have more rational beliefs and balanced thoughts. This technique is often used for those that suffer from depression or anxiety, but it can be an effective tool for anyone. If your thought patterns affect your relationships, success, or even well-being, then some form of cognitive restructuring therapy may be helpful.
Research has proven that emotions are workable, meaning with work they can be changed. So how you experience a certain emotion is not fixed rather it can be shaped. Again, researchers worldwide have determined that certain mental trainings can impact our perceptions and in the same way impact our feelings. This is why practices like: mindfulness, kindness, positivity, forgiveness and gratitude are often listed as ways that you can shape your state of being, which results in improved mental wellness.
These practices can also be referred to as attitudes that you adopt, like an attitude of gratitude.
